I’ve been creating dance and choreography for 40 years. Dance has always been my passion and my way of reflecting the world around me. Quite unexpectedly, I discovered the magic of clay—a material that transforms through touch and fire into a finished form.
About Anton Ovchinnikov
I’m Anton Ovchinnikov — a Ukrainian choreographer and ceramic artist based in Vilnius, Lithuania. For over 40 years, I’ve been creating contemporary dance and performance works that explore body, memory, and transformation.
From Movement to Clay
Recently, I discovered a new language: handmade ceramics. My journey with clay began unexpectedly, but it soon became clear that it speaks the same truth as movement. Like dance, ceramic art is shaped by energy, repetition, rhythm, and the invisible forces within the body.
The Birth of Dance is Ceramica
This is how Dance is Ceramica was born — a ceramic studio in Vilnius where choreography meets sculpture. Each ceramic object becomes a gesture preserved in form.
What I Create
I work with stoneware to create mugs, vases, figurines, and sculptural objects. Every piece is hand-built and carries the traces of the body in motion. Whether functional or abstract, each form captures a moment — a pause, a breath, a memory made solid.
My Philosophy
At Dance is Ceramica, the body and clay are in constant conversation. I believe in slowness, tactility, and the poetry of form. My ceramics are not just objects — they are stories shaped by hands and fire.
